Hairbrained: Back To Basics

While many gear up for back-to-school season, one California student is just winding down from her intensive 44-week Cosmetology Course at Sassoon Academy. Meet Jessica, an aspiring hair professional and soon-to-be graduate of the world-renowned Sassoon Academy Cosmetology program. Learn what she loves most about Sassoon, and think back to your own freshmen days of cut and color fundamentals in this edition of our Sunday Student Spotlight.

Name: Jessica

Age: 21

Hometown: Born in San Angelo, TX, but grew up in The Valley near Los Angeles, CA

What inspired your interest in hairdressing? “Hair is truly an art form. Whether it’s cutting or coloring, you can be as creative as any artist given the right tools, techniques and training.”

Favorite part of Sassoon Academy? “Learning from the passionate instructors. I’m surrounded by some of the most creative forces in the industry,” says Jessica. “The [Sassoon] instructors are completely invested in the future of hairdressing, and their personal investment truly shows in a student’s success and progress!”

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned? “Firstly, the importance of fundamentals and technique, and secondly, that education never really ends: There’s always more to learn, always room for improvement. Instructors who have been with Sassoon for more than 20 years tell us that they’re still learning.”

What’s your career aspiration? “I’ve always been interested in teaching, I think ultimately I’d like to be a Sassoon Academy Instructor myself.”

Any advice for those considering cosmetology school? “Come in open-minded, with a passion for hair and ready to work! You’ll never know if you don’t try!”
