Thanks to social media, we've been able to see a side of the Olympics that we've never seen before. Olympic athletes have taken to TikTok to share what life is actually like inside the village in Tokyo.
On the less glamorous side of things, athletes sleep on cardboard beds in dorm-like rooms. But, when they're not competing (or sleeping), they have access to souvenir shops, fully-equipped gyms, game rooms, self-driving cars and even a full-service hair and nail salon.
Erica Ogwumike, a member of the Nigerian national basketball team, shared a quick clip on TikTok of her time in the Olympic village, highlighting just a few of these offerings available to athletes. Team USA rugby player Cody Melphy even took a video of himself getting pampered in the salon. According to his clip, the salon offers three different services: haircut, shampoo, and blow-dry; shampoo and blow-dry; and shaving—all free to athletes.
