As you look forward to reopening your salon, you will likely have to follow a new set of guidelines to ensure a safe space for clients and staff. While most were common practice prior to the pandemic, there are also a few newly-added rules to keep business running smoothly. Redken took to Instagram to share a some back-to-business tips and refreshers to help you best prepare.
Respect Social Distancing
- You can respect social distancing rules by reorganizing furniture to allow more space in between stylists
- Consider split shifts between staff to avoid non-essential contact
- Encourage remote consultations when possible
Establish New Salon Rules
- Modifying client services as defined by state
- Remove touchable items from waiting area
- Establish salon disinfecting routine
- Ask for contactless methods of payment
- Use a Mask
- Wear masks to help prevent infection
- Remember: masks are only effective when used in combination with frequent hand washing and other preventative measures
- Always wear a mask when displaying symptoms such as coughing or sneezing
- Provide masks to your clients to increase level of protection
- Cloth masks should fit snuggly yet comfortably against the face
- Tools and Products
- Barbicide should be at each station
- Stop use of communal tools/require stylists to have their own
- Store tools in closed, labeled containers
- Allow time between clients for disinfection
- Always clean before disinfection
Promote Hand Hygiene
- Wash your hands before and after clients
- Do not touch your face or nose
- Cover coughs or sneezes with the inside of elbow or upper arm
- Encourage use of hand disinfectant
- Use gloves in addition to washing hands
- Gloves are not a substitute for hand washing
- Gloves must be changed after all activities and each client
- Avoid touching your mouth and eyes while wearing gloves
- When removing gloves:
- Grasp the outside of glove—do not touch bare skin
- Peel glove away from body
- Dispose of gloves safely. Do not re-use.
- Clean your hands immediately after wearing gloves
