How to Properly Install Suspending Blow-Dryers

Updating your salon by installing suspending blow-dryers can be a great space saver and make your space look more modern, but there is a right way to approach this. Freestyle Systems shares how.

Step 1: Determine installation type. For example:

  • Drop ceiling/suspended tile ceiling
  • Above-the-ceiling installation kit
  • Rough-in installation kit
  • Suspended installation kit
  • Light platforms

Step 2: Measure ceiling height. The dryer’s resting height should be one to four inches above the stylist’s head for ideal ergonomics. The tension is preset by the factory so the dryer floats down slowly when the brake is not engaged.

Step 3: Positioning. For a device like the Freestylist, which is not a cord rewind device, but a free-floating dryer support system engineered to support the weight of the dryer the entire time it is being used, it should be installed directly over the client’s head based on how far the chair is placed from the mirror; 42-inches to 56-inches is typical.
