Festival season and free-spirited fashion seem to go hand-in-hand. And while music may be the main attraction when it comes to attending these desert discos, dressing the part is half of the fun.
Finding the perfect outfit isn’t the only challenge festivalgoers face. Our industry knows best: No look is truly complete without an equally chic hairstyle to match. From boho plaits and flower crowns to power ponys and even more intricate looks, festival hair is all about a style that combines creativity with sensibility—it needs to keep frizz on lockdown and last for days.
Taylor Lamb, a hairstylist at Habit Salon in Gibert, AZ, predicts that slicked-back French braids with some added pops of color are going to be a big trend this season. “When I’m working with second- or third-day hair on a client, I almost always incorporate some kind of braid,” Lamb says. The timeless style has so many different variations and can disguise unwashed locks.
On the other hand, Denise Madrigal, a stylist from Nine Zero One Salon in West Hollywood, CA, forecasts hair feathers and foils will be showing up big at this year’s festivals. Fear not, she’s also a big supporter of braids. “Braids are the perfect answer to the relentless desert wind,” she says. “They’re also fun, easy and always cute.”
