Behind the April Cover: Garden Party

Scott Mitchell, CEO of Simply Organic Beauty, discovered Organic Way (OWAY), a biodynamic organic hair color, care and styling line in Bologna, Italy, and was so blown away that he decided it needed a wider audience. Now available in the United States exclusively through Simply Organic Beauty, the sustainable luxury line is the real deal—aluminum tubes that are infinitely recyclable, some styling products in amber glass jars to preserve the biodynamic organic ingredients inside, and sustainably farmed ingredients like organic black quinoa, organic goji berry and biodynamic red vine and fire tulip. The company grows, handpicks and distills its pure organic extracts, essential oils and hydrolates with zero chemicals in accordance with biodynamic farming standards. All of the products in the line are versatile enough to give holistic stylists the ability to style, cut, sculpt and shine with nourishing formulas that protect hair against humidity and prolong style. See for yourself.

Flux Potion is a great alternative to mousse before blow-drying to create full, flexible styles like this. To seal split ends and give the hair intense shine, Andrews relied on Nurturing Drops, which are ultra-concentrated.

Sea Salt Spray is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want a structured blowout. Here, Andrews used it to give the hair some “grit” before crimping it all over. After the waves were brushed out, she pinned the hair back and used Sculpting Mist, which actually treats and moisturizes hair, to hold everything in place.

Looks like Andrews was channeling Sophia Loren here. All we can say is ciao bella. Key to this look was Glossy Nectar, which she worked through the hair from roots to ends—it’s not only infused with organic black quinoa, which is rich in phytoproteins, but also with biodynamic marrublum to reinforce the hair’s natural structure. A quick spritz of eco-friendly Sculpting Mist provided extra strong hold with no residue.

To produce maxed-out curl that looks healthy and hydrated, Andrews applied Glossy Nectar, which actually penetrates the cuticle to repair, strengthen and condition even the most damaged hair. Before using a double-barrel curling iron to set the hair in small curls, she applied Thermal Stress Protector, a medium-hold thermal protecting spray that guards against temperatures up to 437 degrees Fahrenheit. After finger combing out the curls, she applied Sculpting Mist to set the style without weighing it down.

To create these sexy, tousled waves, Gregory applied Flux Potion before blow-drying the hair. Sculpting Mist provided the support she needed to hold a set, which was executed with a medium-barrel curling iron. After using her fingers to “brush out” the curls, she applied Glamshine Cloud Spray, which adds lustrous shine to finished styles with a hint of all-natural essential oil fragrance.
