Color How-To: Sandy Brunette

These days, blondes aren't the only ones having fun. Enhanced, natural-looking brunettes have taken over our Instagram feed and we are all about the trend. The best part? There are endless variations, and a drastic change can be achieved by simply adding highlights throughout.

Always on top of the latest trends, Cherin Choi (@mizzchoi), one of Los Angeles' most in-demand colorists, transformed her client from solid black virgin hair to a seamlessly-melted sandy brunette. Here's how:

Get the formula:

  • Full highlights using babylights on the top and back of head.
  • Comb through the ends using Redken Flash Lift 20 and 30 volume.
  • Tone with Redken Shades EQ 7gb (butterscotch), 7nb (chestnut), clear and a splash of 8c (cayenne).
