Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri Want You To Stop the Facetune and Be Authentic

Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri are the California dream team—they're the mane mavens behind some of Hollywood's biggest names and the owners of L.A.’s Nine Zero One salon (@ninezeroone). With the goal of creating a space that was both comfortable, yet trendy and high class, Lee and Capri built one of the country's top salons from the ground up, and their story is only just getting started. Here, the duo shares a few things you may not know about them.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

NL: Do things for the passion, not for the money. The money will come. 

RC: Make sure you have something that motivates you! My dad looked me in the eyes right before I went to beauty school and said  “you’ll be back.” I’ve been so successful because I worked so hard to avoid going back home.

What’s the #1 item on your bucket list?

RC: I'd love to fly a plane.

NL: Travel to the Maldives, for sure!

If you could dine with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?

RC: I'd have to pick Steve Jobs. He was a genius and I'd want to pick his brain. 

NL: Oprah! Because she’s Oprah! 

What’s your biggest social media pet peeve?

NL: Facetune gone wrong! Put the Facetune down. 

RC: People not being authentic. I don’t like when people buy followers, likes or views. 

One hair product I can’t live without is ______.

NL & RC: In Common Magic Myst! And that’s honestly the truth! 

What’s one thing someone would be surprised to know about you?

NL: I love taco bell—my favorite meal is taco bell! 

RC: I was on the swim team in high school and I can still do the butterfly stroke incredibly well! 

If you could talk to your younger self, what would you tell her?

RC: Be nicer to your sister! 

NL: I'd tell her to be more free and not care so much about what other people think.

What are you most proud of in your career?

RC & NL: The fact that Nine Zero One is still alive and thriving after 10 years!
