Have a dark-haired client that wants to hop on the rainbow trend without aggressive lightening? Oil-slick hair may be the solution you’ve been searching for. By combining a palette of indigo, purple, emerald and magenta, the color is completely customizable and ideal for clients aren’t keen on losing their dark locks.
California-based stylist Monique Leahy (@mclhair) created a custom oil-slick color for her client that puts an entirely new spin on rainbow hair. Get the formula below:
- Pre-lighten hair using 20 vol Schwarzkopf BLONDEME and the backcomb foilyage technique. Lift to a level 8.
- Freehand Joico Intensity Peacock Green, Pink and Amethyst Purple for a natural blend.
- In some sections, melt the colors together to eliminate harsh lines. Others, use a single color per section.
- Process for 30 minutes.
- Rinse with cold water and style as desired.
