October Fest

Amazing education and the debut of a new Color Zoom Collection 2015 take center stage at Goldwell’s annual Global Color Zoom.

With its mix of hip shops, museums and contemporary art galleries, Berlin proved to be a fitting hot spot to host Goldwell Color Zoom 2014. That fact was not lost on the more than 2,500 industry aficionados who converged in the city for the happening, which spanned multiple venues and days this past October.

After attending numerous welcoming events, including a U.S. party at the Radisson Blu hotel, a guided tour of Berlin by land and sea, and an evening soirée at Kraftwerk Berlin, the moment everyone had been waiting for finally arrived: the Global Color Zoom Challenge. Hairdresser finalists from all over the world gathered at Station-Berlin—a historical landmark that once served as a major railway hub—for the live competition, demonstrating their creativity while reinterpreting Goldwell’s Reallusion trend collection. “Without a doubt, Color Zoom is the most challenging competition and important career booster in life,” said Derrick Zeno, the 2013 global winner in the Partner category from the U.S. Immediately upon the competition’s conclusion, beauty pros had plenty of opportunities for advanced education in the form of Look & Learn seminars taught by artists from Icono salon of Germany; Headline salon of Taiwan; Nick Arrojo of the U.S.; Mario Krankl of Austria; the KMS Global Style Council; and the Global Color Zoom Creative Team.

Later that evening, Goldwell hosted an inspirational hair fashion show, where the 2013 Global Color Zoom winners joined the Global Color Zoom Creative Team to unveil Traditional Rebels, a collection that pushes hairstyling to new dimensions. Also on tap was a sneak peek at Goldwell’s new image (see page 114) and the crowning of the Global Color Zoom 2014 winners. Taking home top honors were Lok Chan from Hong Kong in the Partner category (stylists who have already worked for Goldwell at shows or seminars); Lidia Malez from Russia in the New Talent category (young, creative colorists with less than five years of professional experience); and Hardy Tsai from Taiwan in the Creative category (experienced colorists using Topchic, Colorance and Elumen). Chan, Malez and Tsai will now have the opportunity to develop the next Goldwell Color Zoom fashion collection, garnering international recognition from their peers in the hairdressing community.

“Next we will be hosting the annual Goldwell Global Zoom event in Las Vegas,” said Trevor Attenborough, president and general manager of Kao USA Salon Division. “We encourage beauty pros to enter and compete in Color Zoom 2015 or simply join us at the Cosmopolitan Hotel.” For additional coverage, check out americansalon.com. ✂ —Kelley Donahue
