Eric Bandholz On How To Help Your Clients Grow & Maintain A Beard

Growing a beard can be an expression of freedom, but it's also a commitment. Beards don't take care of themselves any more than a lawn or nails. To help your client grow an awesome beard, simply put away the razor and trimmer and wait. That’s all there is to it; or so most men would have you believe.

There is an art to growing an impressive beard, and while not every many can manage a heady style, most guys will be pleased to know that there are some easy shortcuts that can get you there. Let your clients know that before giving up on learning how to grow a beard faster, they need to keep in mind that a beard can take anywhere from a few weeks to several years to grow in completely and reach its full length. Beyond that, the general hygiene, health and genetics play a large part in the growth of facial hair. Let these handy tips from Beardbrand founder, Eric Bandholz be a guide:

1. Put down your razor and wait. There are things you can do to help make that process a more successful experience. You need to give your beard at least 1 to 2 months of growth before you even begin to trim it. This will prevent you from shaving off your beard all at once at the first little mistake and it will give you a clearer picture of what you have to work with.

2. To grow a beard quicker, start treating your body right. To help speed up the growth of your beard you can take some biotin, multivitamins, eat a healthy diet which includes lots of protein, and lift weights.

3. Groom your beard. After you’ve grown your beard out for 1-2 months without touching your razor at all, trim your beard right above the adam's apple, NOT near the edge of your chin. Go with a nice rounded shape up towards your sideburns. If you can't grow untouched for 1 to 2 months, we recommend growing your beard out for charity for Movember or No-Shave November. This will give you an excuse on why you are growing a beard that people won't be able to harass you about.

4. Take care of your beard. When you groom you'll want to use beard oil. The stuff is fantastic and will soften up your beard, make it smell great, and help with dryness. Using a comb will help keep everything in line and premium combs will be cut from blanks and cheaper combs will be extruded from plastic.
