In Studio: Bright and Beautiful Summer Nail Colors

Garden Party

For summer 2015, CND introduces the Garden Muse collection with six curated shades—Beckoning Begonia, Hot Pop Pink, Wisteria Haze, Lost Labyrinth, Water Park, Butterfly Queen—added to its ever popular Shellac. According to CND co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold, “This season’s trends are all about sculpted, dramatic silhouettes and intense floral hues that invite abandoned reverie.” The bold and bright colors of this collection certainly inspire that. —M.S.

Neon nails may trend every year, but this time around, there’s a different look and feel to it. “What you’re definitely going to see that hasn’t been done before is nail art with neons,” says Gino Trunzo, director of education for Essie. “You’re going to see multiple neon colors used in a cool, artsy way.” One look is the horseshoe effect where one shade is used as the base and another is applied on top to create a U-shaped outline on the edges. Ombré and half-moon are also popular styles to try with these brights. “And if you want to make it look sophisticated using just one color, you can do a neon French and create dimension by matte-ing out just the tip or the entire nail and only keep the tips glossy,” he says. To make the color really pop, Trunzo suggests laying down a coat of white polish on the natural nail before applying the neon
shade on top. —M.S.
