Officially established in 1787, the town of Danville, KY, is known as the City of Firsts because of the many "firsts" that occurred there. The town housed the first courthouse in Kentucky and it opened the first U.S. Post Office west of the Allegheny Mountains. This leading reputation is reflected in many aspects of the town, including at Salon on 4th Hair Studio, where locals and out-of-towners flock for fashion-forward styles and to stay ahead of the trends.

When Brad Simmons, CEO and president of real estate company Star Home USA, came across the opportunity to purchase and reopen a hair salon that recently went out of business, he jumped at the chance. "The hair salon business is as recession-proof as you can get," Simmons says. In May 2009, Simmons, along with his wife and co-owner, Cindy, opened Salon on 4th Hair Studio. Simmons credits the salon's central location and "rock star stylists" for the salon's quick success. "The salon looks like a place where employees care about their clients, and we do," Simmons says.

The salon's decor creates a relaxing and soothing environment for clients to feel at ease during their visit. Large antique black mirrors and light mocha walls with white trim create an atmosphere that Simmons refers to as "classy, sort of Jacqueline Kennedy-esque." While there is room for eight stylists at the salon, there are currently only three, but Simmons has plans to expand this number as the salon's success increases.

Clients can receive a number of hair services including cuts, styling, highlights, color, waxing and relaxers. "We have a great location, great stylists and a great following," Simmons says. "The salon is clean, bright and nicely decorated. It just feels good to be inside here, which is what our clients love." —NICOLE PALMIERI
