In every small town across America, there's at least one salon that raises the bar for everyone else. Springville, NY, (population 4,252) has Medusa Salon.

Located in the town of Concord, NY, about 30 miles from Buffalo, is the small village of Springville. Incorporated in 1834, and hometown to such notable names as Pop Warner and song writer Jack Yellen, Springville offers the ultimate in small-town charm. When residents are craving a taste of the big city, however, they head to Medusa Salon.

"We wanted to open a salon that was upscale and trendy for residents who don't want to drive to Buffalo," says Christy Bottoms, who co-owns the salon with her sister-in-law, Shannan Klahn. Bottoms and Klahn not only run the salon—they are the only stylists there, too. "We both worked in salons in Buffalo before we came to Springville, so we were able to bring our big-city expertise here," Bottoms says.

While the 600-square-foot salon offers a full menu of hair services, haircolor is the most popular. In addition, eyebrow waxing and makeup application are available.

The salon features a modern-meets-rustic decor, with the building's original brick wall on one side and deep purple and teal accents throughout. To keep clients comfortable and satisfied while at the salon, especially in the cold winter months when snow is prevalent, Bottoms and Klahn serve complimentary coffee, cappuccinos, tea, soda and chocolates.

Clients are frequently invited to attend events at the salon, such as Blowdry Bootcamp, in which they bring their own products into the salon and Bottoms and Klahn show them how to properly use them to create various looks. Also, any haircuts for Locks of Love cost only $5. "Since we only work by appointment, we know all of our clients and have a great relationship with them," Bottoms says. "They really trust us because we stay on top of fashion and style trends. They appreciate the personalized service they receive here and are always willing to try new things that we suggest to them." —NICOLE PALMIERI
