Breaking News: NCA Postpones SalonLife '09

The National Cosmetology Association (NCA) has announced that it has postponed SalonLife '09. The industry event, which was due to take place August 2-3 in Chicago, has not yet been rescheduled at this time. The NCA delegates annual meeting will continue as planned.

“We believe that this is the most proactive, fiscally responsible action to take in the face of what has been called the worst economy in close to a century,†explains Gordon Miller, NCA's executive director. “In spite of good signs on the economic horizon, most of us remain cautious. In fact, many salon owners and professionals-members and non-members alike-told us that they were hesitant to leave their businesses or to spend any extra money on travel right now. Following soft exhibit sales and turnouts at some of the largest industry shows, as well as higher than expected show expenses and more corporate budget cuts, many of our vendor partners asked us to reconsider the timing of our event. It became clear that our goal of creating a new kind of show experience was simply not possible at this time.â€

Adds Mark Goodman, NCA president, “Our 'NCA Cares' theme is much more than a slogan—it's a guiding principle that influences every decision we make. As disappointed as we are, postponing this year's event is simply the right thing to do for our members, our industry partners and our association. In fact, we have been overwhelmed by the positive to response and thanks we have received for making the right decision-no matter how difficult it is for the Association. Be assured that NCA continues to provide a strong organization that shares beauty professionals' values. Today, we need each other more than ever. United under the NCA banner, we will overcome today's challenges and work together to make our individual businesses and our industry even stronger.â€
