Dare to Dream

Count down from five. Make a decision. Act on it. This is the “5-Second Rule” created by Mel Robbins as a way to inspire people to take action on the important decision in their lives. It made for a perfect complement to the Dare to Dream Conference hosted by The Salon People. Over 1,000 Aveda artists attended the event in St. Petersburg, FL where they listened to powerful presentations from industry insiders on professional development.

Humor-based inspiration led presentations from Virginia Meyer, co-owner of Aveda salon FOURTEENJAY, and Creative Strategist Christopher Hermann. Many who’ve already achieved significant dreams were able to speak from personal experience like North American Hairstyling Award (NAHA) winners and others who have achieved industry success.

Barbara De Laere, Aveda’s Global General Manager, addressed the crowd with an invigorating speech. She pointed out the unique position stylists are in to cater to the changing consumer needs. This is a special and secure field because no app is going to dye or cut anyone’s hair. “You give guests an experience, a personalized consultation, expertise and curation, connection and transparency, and an authentic, natural brand.”
