Eco Brief: Complexions Spa Donates Trees for Earth Day

Complexions Spa for Beauty and Wellness in Albany, NY has always been dedicated to “green” practices and focused on helping the environment rather than harming it. To keep up this impressive track record, the spa celebrated Earth Day by giving away tree saplings all week.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Complexions Spa has given away 100 tree saplings to clients around the Capital Region to help promote Earth Day. Each sapling comes with planting directions and some “green” tips clients can implement in their homes.

Complexions is also a gold-level LEED certified spa because they use low-energy lighting, energy-efficient appliance, low-flow faucets and toilets, eco-friendly detergents and paper supplies, an energy recovery ventilator, and more. Complexions’ greenhouse gas savings is estimated at 56 tons annually—equivalent to the level of CO2 emissions generated from the electricity use of about seven homes in one year. Additionally, because of their ultra-green spa, Complexions saves more than $10,000 annually in utility bills.

Complexions plans to further their green space when they open their newly constructed add-on, which is also being built to LEED certified specifications. When complete, the spa will have about 11,000 sq. ft. with an expanded hair salon, professional makeup area, and reception/lounge area. An outdoor relaxation area will also be added with a water feature, paying tribute to the Earth’s most precious resource.

“We like to think that every day at Complexions is Earth Day,” said Denise Dubois, owner of Complexions. “We are extremely dedicated to a ‘green’ lifestyle, and hope other businesses are as well as there is so much we can do to help maintain a healthy environment that really does not take a lot of extra effort.” —Aja Edwards
