Eco Brief: Zotos International Recognized by Environmental Protection Agency

The two wind turbines that are aiding Zotos International in reducing the company's carbon footprint.

In conclusion of American Salon’s Eco Brief series for Earth Month, Zotos International shared with us some great news on how they are changing their company to be more efficient and green.

Zotos International has partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Green Power Partnership and is listed at number 18 on EPA’s Top 20 On-Site Generation list. Zotos is expected to generate 6.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity from two on-site wind turbines, which is enough green power to meet 50 percent of the organization’s electricity use and is equivalent to the carbon dioxide emissions of nearly 900 passenger vehicles per year.

“This is a huge honor and we are proud to be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,” said Anthony Perdigao, Zotos chief sustainability officer. “Generating green power helps our organization become more sustainable, while also sending a message to others across the U.S. that supporting clean resources of electricity is a sound business decision and an important choice in reducing climate risk.”

Zotos also launched its carbon offset program with Versus Carbon Neutral, which Zotos will offset 100 percent of its Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon dioxide emissions from its manufacturing facility. Also, the company is planning to reduce its packaging-related greenhouse gas emissions by more than 76 percent using new packaging created from a hybrid bioplastic resin. —Aja Edwards
