Do you fancy yourself a hair color pro? Does the smell of color and coffee define your morning routine? If hair color is your calling, Paul Mitchell’s Color Outside the Lines hair competition is a great opportunity to show what you’re made of as a colorist, have a tremendous amount of fun with your craft and potentially win a trip to Sardinia, Italy to present your skill.
Paul Mitchell invites professional stylists of all specialties to Color Outside the Lines and show off their hair-coloring skills by entering their second annual hair color competition. Entries will be accepted beginning January 1 through March 15, 2017, where by participants may enter for a chance to snag incredible prizes, a trip to Sardinia to experience Global Gathering—John Paul Mitchell Systems’ industry extravaganza for salon professionals around the world.

The contestants will be judged for individual vision. All judging is done blindly; the judges will not know the names or identities of the entrants during the contest.
- 70% Hair color technique, choice of colors, and how the hair color respects the cut and style.
- 30% Overall vision, creativity and interpretation of trend

- Sunsets flaunt soft pinks, pastel purples, warm oranges and baby blues.
- City lights shimmer with neon yellows and glowing whites.
Participants should be mindful of these friendly tips when planning a photo shoot.
- Study the mood boards and make sure your work suits the mood you are entering.
- Storyboard your concepts down to nail polish, poses, props, etc. Practice the looks before the shoot.
- Be selective when choosing a model, makeup artist, fashion stylist and photographer. These essential people will make your best work even better and elevate the average shoot into award-winning territory.
- Create a timeline and do your best to stick to it. Time management is very important on a shoot!
- Make sure the final image submitted reflects your best effort and goal for the competition.
