The Event Experience

As good a job as I feel we do keeping you informed, educated and inspired through the pages of American Salon, we are restricted in many ways. This is a hands-on, up-close, personal kind of an industry, and a printed magazine has its limits.

That's why the Beauty Group here at Advanstar is a multi-platform media company. We produce the International Beauty Show in New York, Hair Color USA, and will be announcing several exciting new events very soon. We feel it's our job to use as many tools as possible to bring salon owners, managers, stylists, colorists and students together with the finest manufacturers and educators in the field.

A trade show or educational event is, by nature, a more personal, more interactive and more hands-on way to share information than we can achieve through print alone. Certainly you can be awed and inspired by the beautiful images and compelling graphics we present in the pages of American Salon. But to be able to sit in the audience just a few feet away from such artists as Robert Cromeans, Sonya Dove, Robert Lobetta or Frederic Fekkai while they work magic on a model's head—now that's an experience that can really move you. Step-by-step photos in a magazine provide the basic foundation of instruction, but to see a demonstration up close, to be able to ask questions and give it a try yourself really brings it home.

For this reason, we feel our mission here at the Advanstar Beauty Group is not just to simply publish articles on paper. We define our role much more broadly: to be the primary source of information, education and inspiration for the professional salon community. We accomplish this through our magazines, trade shows, conferences, Internet sites, electronically delivered magazines, newsletters, custom-published magazines and more. Wherever salon professionals can be found, we're there to bring you the information you need, to create a dialogue between you and your peers, and to connect you with the manufacturers and suppliers who help you do what you do every day.
