Exit to Guyville

Ever wonder who gets the guys you see in movies and on television ready for their close-ups? We talked to Gloria Casny, who was department head on AMC's incomparable Mad Men last season, to find out what she's been doing. Turns out she spent time in the jungle this year working on the Che Guevara biopic, The Argentine, starring Benicio Del Toro as Che. Casny shared her styling secrets with us—she was assigned to Demián Bichir, who plays Fidel Castro in the film. "I blew his hair out using my fingers to crunch in some texture," says Casny, who also used a ½-inch iron to curl and wave his hair. "American Crew Matte worked really well and gave great texture for those humid days in the jungle," she says. A variety of products were used on the rest of the rebels, including American Crew Fiber and Classic Wax and Redken for Men Get Groomed Finishing Cream and Maneuver Working Wax.

Casny put us in touch with Gail Ryan, who has worked with Del Toro for the past eight years. "He has beautiful hair, but it's very thick so it's important to use the right products," says Ryan, who was happy with how Redken shampoos performed on him. To straighten Del Toro's hair, she relied on FHI Heat irons. Her hairspray of choice? "I like Sebastian best," she says.

Casny has also been working with Linda Flowers on The Da Vinci Code sequel, Angels & Demons, which stars Tom Hanks. Flowers is his personal hairdresser. While she has taken a break from television this season to work on Angels & Demons, Flowers has worked on HBO's Entourage in the past. Naturally, I wanted to know what products she used on each of the actors in the show. To provide control on Adrian Grenier's (Vince) hair, she used KMS California Hairplay, along with Bumble and bumble Styling Creme for added shine and mobility. Flowers used Redken Full Frame 07 protective volumizing mousse to blow-dry Kevin Connolly's (Eric) hair before styling it with Sebastian Crude Clay. Meanwhile, Kevin Dillon (Drama) and Jerry Ferrara (Turtle) loved Paul Mitchell Leave-in Conditioner, Tea Tree Gel and Tea Tree Styling Creme. "I used Joe Grooming products on all other guest actors," says Flowers, whose staff used Kamisori or Washi shears to cut the actors' hair when it needed it.
