Green Luxury

Complexions Spa for Beauty and Wellness in Albany, NY, is embarking on a new journey toward minimizing its environmental impact and is taking guests along for the ride. Manicures, pedicures, facials and massages utilizing botanicals are offered, in addition to a selection of organic detoxification, relaxation and purification body rituals. "We have beauty rituals that have been passed down for generations from places all over the world like India, Thailand and Egypt," says Denis Dubois, the spa's owner and founder. "I wanted to get back to what spas are all about—wellness—and move away from providing pampering services only." If guests want to continue their spa experience at home, they can buy the spa's own line of organic products called d.dubois. The 8,500-square-foot spa features high-efficiency, double-pane, low-emissivity, argon-filled windows and a lighting design that reduces overall wattage to save energy. With all these energy-efficient measures, Complexions Spa for Beauty and Wellness will save more than $10,000 in utility bills. "Personal wellness begins by living in a healthy environment," Dubois says. —A.P.
