The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with The Doves Behind the Scenes, Part 2

Wella Professionals artists and global ambassadors for Hairdreams Extensions Christopher and Sonya Dove of The Doves Studio in Santa Monica, California created a collection called Neo Classic, as seen in the November issue of American Salon. A futuristically inspired collection, Neo Classic was created in response to the Doves' experience working as part of the hair team for one of the most anticipated movies of the holiday season, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

After I spoke to the Doves about the collection, we talked about their experience with the movie. The two worked closely with Linda D. Flowers, the hair department head for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and helped with creating the color and styles of the wigs worn by the many extras in the movie.

In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the heroine Katniss Everdeen and her fellow tribute Peeta Mellark are back from winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games and it's time to take the victor's tour through the districts. As part of the celebration, Everdeen and Mellark also must partake in parties at the Capitol and it's here where the most vibrant and innovative hairdos are seen on the cast of thousands.

A crew of stylists was on hand to ensure that the extras' and stars' locks looked true to the vision of the book's author Suzanne Collins and the movie's director Francis Lawrence.

Flowers and her team had set up shop at The Doves Studio in Santa Monica to begin the prep work for the hair looks of 200-plus wigs. "Each look had to be approved by the director, so many looks were created," Christopher said. Sketches were made prior to the looks and Flowers depended on the Doves keen eyes for style and creativity to help build the vision.

The Doves used Hairdreams extensions incorporated into the wigs and Wella Professionals Illumina was used for creating the pastel colors,

Below is the behind the scenes looks of the wigs worn by the many extras. The work is stunning, colors vivid and styles exciting. Be sure to make note of these looks so when you go out to see the movie you can spot them on the big screen!
