Jacob Nieto, recent Los Angeles Trade Technical College graduate, is the winner of the first Junior Style Star Men’s Styling Competition for his progressive faux-hawk look. The competition was open to beauty and barber school students nationwide and was hosted by American Crew, Andis Clipper Company and Sport Clips. Stylists were encouraged to engage their creativity for their look, which was showcased on mannequins and judged based on quality.

Tonya Hanna of American Crew, Julie Vargas from Sport Clips and Heather Chaffin and Paul Barry from Junior Style Star announced Nieto’s honor with the staff at LATTC in a surprise ceremony before 100 fellow students, his instructors and the college president. Nieto was awarded $25,000 for his winning entry and will spend a day of one-on-one training with Ivan Zoot, national educational director for the Andis Clipper Company, at a Sport Clips Salon in Austin, TX.

“We hope to build an amazing foundation for students to display their talent and creativity,” said Sport Clips Director of Career Opportunities Julie Vargas. “Changing lives is what it is all about.”
