Makes Perfect Sense

Antonio L. Rosa, co-owner of Senses New York Salon & Spa, refers to his salon as being upscale, but not uptight. Celebrating its one-year anniversary this month, the 4,000-square-foot salon and spa, located in the Flatiron District in Manhattan, features a contemporary mod decor with a purple and white color scheme, 15-foot ceilings, shampoo bowls that recline and massage, and a bar serving flavored water, lemonade, ice tea and cappuccino. Clients can choose from a variety of hair, skin and body services, including cuts, styles, the La-Brasiliana keratin treatment, facials, massage and waxing. They can also make an appointment with celebrity tattoo artist Friday Jones at the in-salon tattoo parlor. "It never crossed our minds to have a tattoo parlor in the salon and spa," says Rosa, who co-owns Senses with fellow hairstylist Bruce Conroy. "Friday approached us and we loved her energy and work right away. It was a match made in heaven. Like hair, tattooing is an art. It speaks to many people about how beauty should be represented." —N.P.
