Making a Splash

Splish Salon, an eco-friendly salon in Conifer, Colorado, will host their second annual Flip the Earth community event on August 29th and 30th. The weekend’s activities include a red carpet hair and fashion show, a dance company performance, a meet and greet with new talent from the Paul Mitchell Institute and a make-up event. The salon also invites attendees to bring their recycling with them. On Sunday, Splish will donate 100 percent of all service and tip revenues and 10 percent of retail sales to various organizations including the Mountain Resource Center, the Soulfully Driven Dance Company and the Splish Foundation.

The green salon, which opened in 2007, features hardwood floors from a sustainable forest in Paraguay, low voltage lighting, counters and cabinet surfaces made of recycled banana fibers, and all natural and organic products. Flip the Earth is one of several events the salon organizes throughout the year to give back to the community and promote a socially responsible and environmentally friendly lifestyle. — Alexandra Finkel
