Man of Honor

I was thrilled to be asked to serve on the dinner committee for this year's City of Hope Cancer Center's Spirit of Life Award because it was honoring my friend and colleague Rick Kornbluth.

An industry leader whose family has supported City of Hope Cancer Center for three generations, Richard A. Kornbluth, chief executive officer of Graham Webb International, will be presented the award for his contributions to the community and the industry at a gala dinner on July 17 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.

"This honor means a great deal to me, to my family and to my colleagues at Graham Webb," said Kornbluth. "The work done at City of Hope Cancer Center is beyond compare. The latest and greatest research is being conducted every day to eradicate cancer and other life-threatening illnesses."

Kornbluth began his career in the professional salon industry more than 20 years ago. He was with Matrix Essentials when he came to the attention of Robert Taylor and his new company, Graham Webb International. Taylor offered him a partnership and the position of president/CEO. After four years of record growth, Graham Webb sold to the Wella Corporation, where Kornbluth became responsible for Wella and Sebastian International in addition to Graham Webb, until Wella recently agreed to sell to Procter & Gamble. During his nine years at Graham Webb, Kornbluth has continued to serve as an ambassador of the industry, encouraging new companies to embrace the integrity that is their heritage.

I have known Rick and his wife, Kim, for many years, going back to my days at Interview magazine. Rick has always had a special place in my heart because he once worked for this magazine selling advertising, and I know no one deserves this honor more than he does.
