Mercedes-Benz Fall ‘11 Fashion Week NYC: Peter Som

For Peter Som's fall 2011 collection, Eugene Souleiman for Wella Professionals created a undone updo inspired by a quirky 1960s housewife. "The starting point was a Tippi Hedren from Hitchcock's The Birds," Souleiman said. "But it's like the birds got out." Souleiman updated the classic bouffant with texture (courtesy of Ocean Spritz and some teasing) and made it a little deconstructed. For even more depth, the models got wefts of hair colored by Wella Professionals Color Ambassador Aura Friedman, who used hair pieces two shades darker than the model's natural color then lightened them to match the natural color as she worked towards the ends, creating a subtle but impactful ombre effect.

The makeup from Tom Pecheux for M.A.C was meant to reflect the "sophisticated yet twisted" look of the collection. He created a fresh, clean face with no eye makeup and just a touch of blush on the cheeks for a youthful feel, then gave it a grown-up edge with peach and silver metallic highlighting on the cheekbones and red lips covered with the same metallic powders. "Using a powder makes the metallic look more sensual instead of being clownlike," Pecheux explained.

The nails were clean and elegant, featuring Zoya's Sally nail polish, a shimmery nude shade.
