With a totally Asian-inspired, modern Fall 2012 collection Designer Bibhu Mohapatra looked to L'Oréal Professionnel Master Session Artist Amit Abraham to create a beautiful, sleek look fitting of the modern, sharp collection that featured lots of bold graphics and straight lines. Specifically the collection was based on the 20th Century Chinese opera The White Hair Girl that tells the stories of Chinese peasant life and enduring the spirit of love in colonial China.
To bring this vision to the hair, Abraham created super straight ponytails with a small wrap around at the base, reflective of an oblong bun. The hair was centered at the crown before pulling into the pony and was prepped with L'oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil and then styled with Infinium 4 hairspray and Perfect Shimmer. The pony was flat-iron and razored straight across to create the blunt end. The final look was set with Infinium 3 hairspray. Abraham emphasized that he wanted the shine to be not too glossy so the ponies didn't look "too done."
Lead make up artist Gato of Maybelline New York did the dramatic face that included an edgy eye and plum colored lips. Gato said he wanted to look to be sophisticated and glamorous, but still appear to be old-fashioned.
Nails were a dramatic and a personal meaning for Bibhu as he teamed up with Zoya to create a special limited edition of a set of three special polishes as influenced by his mother. The colors are Zoya Rekha, Zoya Zeenat and Zoya Parveen. Rekha is a deep beautiful red that the models all wore on their left hands, while Parveen is a beautiful yellowy-neutral worn on the left hands. Both were topped off with the shimmering Zeenat.
