Mercedes-Benz Fall 2012 Fashion Week NYC: Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera and Orlando Pita

Backstage for the Carolina Herrera preshow hair and makeup, the energy was buzzing as creating any look for Ms. Herrera is done with great care and respect. The highlight during the beautiful creations was when Ms. Herrera gently popped in the room to check on things as a CNN crew followed her. She seemed very pleased with everything she saw!

Herrera's fall 2012 collection spoke of true femininity via superb tailoring, saturated colors and keen textiles. For the smart, modern and seductive Herrera woman, lead stylist for the show Orlando Pita of Orlo Salon for Moroccanoil created some serious oomph and incorporated the trend of the season, the headband. "We went big," said Pita. "The style is young and very cool. It looks great with Carolina's clothes."

To get the look Pita did some serious backcombing and used Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong as the foundation to the hair to ensure texture, lift and hold. Prior to backcombing the hair is blown dry using the hairspray to lift the hair at the root with a large round brush. The band was then placed around the neck to be ready for placement after Pita built the teased look. Backcombing took place in 1/2-inch sections starting at the base of the nape and working the way to the front. The finished look was gently brushed to sculpt, topped with the band and spritzed more with spray for added staying power.

The makeup, done by lead artist for MAC Cosmetics Diane Kendal was kept neutral, soft and pretty with lots of contouring, highlighting and keeping things natural, like the brows and lips.

Ana-Maria for Essie used a pretty lavender-based neutral called Not Just a Pretty Face to keep things simple and ladylike on oval-shaped nails.
