Mercedes-Benz Fall/Winter 2014 Fashion Week: 3.1 Phillip Lim

Backstage at the 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall/Winter 2014 show, models rocked bold hair with lots of texture and volume. Paul Hanlon for Moroccanoil created the hair design by looking to the ‘80s for inspiration, but instead of going for the full glamorous look, he added a modern twist with a slightly controlled pompadour shape in the front and a street urban texture in the back. He used Volumizing Mousse, Root Boost, Treatment Light, Intense Curl Cream, Luminous Hairspray and Glimmer Shine Spray to design the hair for this show.

“More than generous amounts of Moroccanoil Light were applied mid-head and on the ends to create a sexier, deconstructed edge to the texture,” Hanlon said. “Though there is a confident sexiness to the hair, we didn’t want it to feel too womanly, but more like the Phillip Lim girl, with a slight street appeal.”

The makeup for 3.1 Phillip Lim was all about the brows. Francelle Daly for NARS Cosmetics was inspiredby the new wave punk look, and Daly and her makeup team customized bold brows for each model, creating a more square shape towards the front and angling it back. She used Brow Perfector and Matte Eyeshadow—shades Blondie, Bali, Bengali, New York or Coconut Grove depending on model’s hair color—to fill in the brows. They used Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, Radiant Creamy Concealer and Light Reflecting Setting Power on the face to even the skin tone. Eyelids were left clean and simple, and they applied Oural Brow Gel and Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara on the lashes. Cheeks were slightly sculpted with Nico Blush and Zen Blush. Nails from this show were also coated with a rich, deep purple nail polish called Crossroads from the 3.1 Phillip Lim for NARS Nail Collection, available August 2014.
