Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2013 NYC: The Blonds

Knifes, blood, gore, straight jackets and straight up psychos were all the rage for The Blonds Fall/Winter 2013 show at Milk Studios as a part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

In creating the collection, The Blonds, designers David and Phillipe Blond, were inspired by classic horror films, in particular old Hitchcok films and The Shining.

For the look of the girl donning chic dresses with a knife motif and a crystal-encrusted corset with dripping blood, Nick Irwin Global Creative Director for TIGI worked with full blonde wigs to help create the look of "Marilyn Monroe on Acid."  Wigs were prepped with CATWALK by TIGI Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo to add texture and allow for styling ease, they were then set with hot rollers and sprayed with CATWALK by TIGI Sleek Mystique Look-Lock Hairspray

Wigs were fitted to the models and additional Dry Shampoo was used to create the shape and provide a dusty look, so the hair wouldn't seem so perfect. Once shape was achieved, Irwin sprayed with Sleek Mystique to set.

Key Makeup Artist Kabuki for M.A.C. Cosmetics put the focus on the eyes in graphic red shadow and black liner. A twist on the late 1950's/early 60's cat eye, the look included spikey lashes to add a touch of femme fatale. For that super red lid, Kabuki used M.A.C. Pro Basic Red Acrylic Paint.

The most stunning part of the look was in the nails created exclusively for The Blonds by CND with a total of 22 looks that explored the idea of "Forbidden" to play off The Blonds horror film theme. The nail looks included images of Janet Leigh from the shower scene in Psycho, Jack Nicholson's famous "Here's Johnny" moment in The Shining, an etching of Hitchcock and nails complete with thousands of dollars worth of Swarovski crystals.

In fact, one Swarovski crystal set of talons have a value of $3,000. Over 8,000 Swarovski crystas in Garnet, Jet, Hematite and Siam were embedded in the nails to create reflection and classic Blond 'bling.'
