Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: LaQuan Smith

On September 10th LaQuan Smith debuted his Spring/Summer 2014 collection, “Dark Summer”.  Lead hair stylist for Andis Keith Neal wanted to complete the look for the designers transitional casual wear line. “LaQuan was inspired by the casualness of summer and wanted that to carry through the hairstyles, while still looking chic,” Neal said. “We chose a mid-high ponytail and two models wore a light Caesar, the ultimate in casual elegance.”

For the hair, Neal used Andis Pro Dry+ Hair Dryer with the comb attachment to straighten the models' hair followed by the Andis Titanium Curved Edge Flat Iron to smooth the surface. Next, he pulled the hair back into a ponytail then curled with a 1’ and 1.5’ Andis Titanium Curling Iron to create volume. For some models, Neal added extensions for length. For two models, Neal used the Andis Excel Ultra Detachable Blade Clipper with #1 blade, giving them the light Caesar cut. “Their confidence and bone structure will make an extreme short cut feminine and sexy,” he said. “To keep the look soft, edge with an Andis Trim ’N Go Trimmer, but don’t create hard masculine lines. You want her to look neat, but not structured.”
