With models strutting down a runway decorated in shimmering sand peppered with cigarette butts, it was only appropriate that the look of the Marc Jacobs 2014 collection was edgy, California surfer girls. Redken Creative Consultant Guido said his inspiration came from the designer; “Marc and I really liked the uniformity that only wigs can create on the runway. This look was designed to encompass the type of free-spirited girl that Marc loves and ultimately designs for. She is somewhat punk and boyish, which is why the wig is bowl-shaped and asymmetrically cut around the face. It is almost as if she took the scissors to her own hair, completely confident and entirely in-tune with her own personal style."
To create the look, Guido applied Guts 10 to dry hair from roots to ends and then he combed through the hair until it was completely saturated. Next, he divided the hair into two sections in the back (top and botton), making three or four parts depending on hair thickness. He then clipped the lower section down so he could brush the top section flat against the head and the round of the head in one direction. For a clean look, he repeated this in each section. Prepping the hair for the wig, Guido blow-dryed locks and applied Control Addict 28 before placing the wig cap over the entire head. Finishing the look, he applied Forceful 23 for added texture.
Founder of Nars Cosmetics François Nars created a “beautiful, edgy, but not pretty” face by prepping the skin with Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30. The eyes were given Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara and Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara followed by Kalisté Eyeliner Pencil in teal. The liner was applied to the inner lid on both the top and bottom and was extended past the outer edge of the eye. To complete the look, Nars swept Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder under the eyes. He left the lips and brows bare.
For the nails, fashion and celebrity manicurist Marian Newman created texture using Marc Jacobs’ Bark! nail polish, set to launch Summer 2014. Playing off of the designer’s theme, she decorated the nails with Swarovski crystals, placing them along the top of each nail, then sealed with another coat of Bark!
