Mercedes-Benz Spring '10 Fashion Week NYC: Monique Lhuillier

Monique Lhuillier's spring '09 collection was presented at Christie's, an apt location for the glamorous designs, which were inspired by Maasai warriors. Backstage, Laurent Philippon for Bumble and bumble was styling the models' hair into crimped ponytails. "We're doing quite a rock 'n' roll ponytail," he told me. Philippon added extensions where needed, separated the top section of hair and pulled the rest of the hair into a tight ponytail, applying Bb. Spray de Mode hairspray for hold and shine. He then crimped the top section, spraying it with Does it All styling spray for more hold, added the top section to the ponytail and wrapped the tail with hair, messing the tails up before the girls went out.

To complement the clothes, Nadine Luke for M.A.C chose to do a strong smoky eye using organic, opalescent tones—M.A.C Eye Shadow in Club and Brun, Eye Kohl pencil in Smolder and Pearlglide Eye Liner in Molasses. Foundation had an airbrushed feeling while cheeks were brushed with mineral powder and a peachy-colored blush; lips were neutral. Nails were equally striking. CND's Roxanne Valinoti layered Raisin in the Sun polish on top Oil Slick for a dark olive-brown shade, adding a matte top coat to give the nails an earthy feeling.
