Mercedes-Benz Spring ‘11 Fashion Week NYC: 3.1 Phillip Lim

The 3.1 Phillip Lim spring 2011 collection was inspired by the female dandy. For the hair, "Philip wanted something very easy, a style models could do themselves," said Odile Gilbert, lead stylist for Phyto, who created a messy chignon with a twisted side bang and a soft curl hanging loose for sweet, innocent touch. Gilbert used Phytovolume Actif Maximizing Volume Spray, Phytolaque Hair Spray and Phyto 7 Daily Hydrating Botanical Cream to achieve the look.

Lisa Butler, lead makeup artist for NARS, designed a look inspired by a simple, everyday girl with youthful elegance. "It's very strong without a lot of makeup," she said. She used Sheer Glow Foundation all over the face and a combination of Madere and Barbarella lipsticks on the cheeks. The lips also got a coat of the nudish-pink Madere; models requiring a bit of structure to their lips received an outline using a beige eyebrow pencil. For the eyes, Butler used the new-for-spring Hollywoodland Soft Touch Shadow Pencil, a light gold shade, a shading of eyebrow pencil on the lids for added definition and very little mascara.

The CND nail team, led by Angi Wingle, created a shade for the nails and toes that Lim named "City Slick" because it reminded him of the sheen of the oil that collects on top of puddles in the city. Wingle applied a coat of Asphalt, a dark gray, with an overlay of Copper Shimmer, creating a bronze hue with black undertones. "The polish has high shine, but it's not glittery," Wingle said. "It's elegant but youthful."
