Giannillo—The Salon

When developing the concept for Giannillo—The Salon, hairstylist Gregg Giannillo and his partner Anson Gilbert-Giannillo wanted to create a boutique salon in Manhattan that provides unparalleled and luxurious services in a comfortable yet glamorous space. "Our inspiration was redefining the salon and the experience that envelopes the salon visit," Gilbert-Giannillo says. The 1,200-square-foot salon officially opened its doors to the public in December 2009, offering clients a range of services from which to choose, including cuts, color, hair extensions, waxing, nail care and makeup application. In addition, Gilbert-Giannillo, a fashion stylist, offers clients personal styling and shopping services.

Giannillo—The Salon's decor is reminiscent of a 1930s Parisian boudoir, with art deco touches throughout. "The salon itself is anti-salon in aesthetic," Gilbert-Giannillo says. "There are no visible salon apparatuses seen until a client is actually in-service." Mirrored vanities replace typical work stations; supplies and products from Barex Italiana, Redken, L'Oréal Professionnel and Milbon are stashed away in invisible, custom-made wall cabinets designed to resemble structured columns; and luxurious surfaces and thoughtful details can be seen throughout the salon. Says Gilbert-Giannillo, "The salon is equipped with every necessity to help clients unwind, have some fun and above all, feel their most gorgeous." —N.P.
