REVAMP! SALONSPA

In the trendy Uptown area of the city where competition is high, reVamp! has carved out a niche. The salon attracts a loyal clientele of really good, down-to-earth people, says General Manager Robert Lindquist. It's that goodness that reVamp! looks to accentuate. "We're known for our makeovers, and we create an environment in which we are able to bring inner beauty out," he says. The salon was voted "Best Makeover Salon in the Minneapolis Metro Area" by Minneapolis/St. Paul magazine and named one of Glamour magazine's "Top Ten Salons." Its stylists have also done makeovers on local and national television, including The Oprah Winfrey Show. But the atmosphere in the salon remains friendly and family-oriented, so clients can feel comfortable going to anyone on staff.

JUUT SALON

Juut's two Minneapolis locations cater to very different clientele. The elegant Downtown salon draws mostly conservative professionals for whom time is money and receiving multiple services at the same time is key. The Uptown location, with décor resembling an artist's studio, attracts fashion-oriented artists, musicians and graphic designers who want more creative haircuts and may spend a whole day being pampered. Owner David Wagner describes the vibe at both salons as "Minnesota Nice." His secret for attracting great people to Juut? "We make a connection to each other," he says. His goal is not only to make Minneapolis more fashionable but also to make it a nicer place to live.

ZILYA SALON AND SPA

With a space designed like a New York loft and a focus on European style, it's easy for Zilya's clients to forget they're in Minneapolis, but their reputation in the city is clear. "We're the number-one hair extension specialist in Minneapolis," says General Manager Alex Mikhailau. Even Hollywood has taken notice. Zilya Tres, the master stylist and creative director of the salon, recently did the hair extensions for the independent movie, Arnold's Park. In the salon, the staff takes a team-based approach to each client, working together to create a look based on hair type, face shape and personal style. The salon also strives to be innovative and stay on top of trends so that they always have something new to offer.

PULL OUT A PLUM SALON AND GALLERY

A play on words referring to a plum as a desirable object or reward, Pull Out a Plum's name is also an apt description of the salon's client philosophy. "It's about taking care of yourself and making the most of what you have," says owner Michele Gatien. Located in Edina, a Minneapolis suburb, Pull Out a Plum prides itself on giving back to the community and promoting local artists, which in turn has helped business. The salon offers a booming retail selection with a reputation for great jewelry, much of it made from local designers. Still, customer relations in the salon is a priority. "We're all about service," says Gatien.
