Our Town

1. Pure Spa & Salon

"We provide clients with a welcoming and approachable spa and salon experience with top-notch services and a friendly and professional staff," says Robyn Gray, owner of Pure Spa & Salon. The 5,000-square-foot salon and spa, which opened in 2006, has a modern decor with an earth-tone color scheme, three styling stations, five treatment rooms and the Waterhouse, which includes a eucalyptus steam room, oversized whirlpool and rain shower. In addition to hair services, massage, facials, body treatments and waxing, the salon and spa also offers medical spa services such as Botox, Restylane and laser treatments. The wide range of services and large space allows the salon to host events like private spa parties and quarterly medical spa parties for clients. "Our Waterhouse really helps us stand out here," Gray says. "We host everything from birthdays to bachelorette parties."

2. Trio

When Dana Jackson's salon business was under construction, she received a knock on the door from a woman who asked if she could have her wedding reception there. Surprised but honored, Jackson agreed. Soon after, she received another knock on the door from a woman who was admiring two chairs Jackson brought in for the construction workers' kids to sit on, and asked if she could buy them. It was then that Jackson decided to make the 3,000-square-foot space not only a salon, but also a gallery and an event space. She chose to name the new business Trio, which she thought most accurately portrayed the concept. From the reception desk to the CD playing in the background, "almost everything in the space is for sale," Jackson says.

3. Salon Three Thirty

When Roger Thompson, creative director for Vidal Sassoon, closed his eponymous salon in Dallas, three of his stylists—Peg Cribari, Yancey Smith and Eric Culbertson—decided to open their own business in a new location. They called it Salon Three Thirty, in reference to the suite number of the Roger Thompson Salon, and have retained the original salon's philosophy and concept at the new space. "We have been successful because we continue to provide exemplary cuts and color to our clients," Cribari says. "We give five-star customer service with our quality services." The 1,700-square-foot salon, which opened in 1997, is considered minimalist and contemporary. Artwork on the wall is from the Goss-Michael Foundation and is changed periodically throughout the year. It's the perfect atmosphere for Salon Three Thirty's "high-end, chic and sophisticated clientele," Cribari says.

4. Salon Pompeo

Salon Pompeo owner Deanna DiPizio-Johnson credits the salon's success to its top-notch customer service. In addition to creating a welcoming environment for clients to enjoy, the salon's hours of operation also make it a convenient and accommodating choice. The Uptown location is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, while the Hotel Palomar location is also open on Sundays. "We are very accommodating for our clients," DiPizio-Johnson says. "We also hold two shifts at the salon so that none of the stylists burn out." Both Salon Pompeo locations feature a modern and minimal decor. A bar and a liquor license allow the salon to serve beer and wine to clients. While the 3,100-square foot Uptown salon attracts mostly 20-to 25-year-old clients, the Hotel Palomar salon is popular among the 40-to 50-year-old set.
