Patrick McIvor Talks About The Man Bun

Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards proved that buns aren’t just for women. While most male celebrities showed up to the red carpet with a traditionally sophistatcated short ’do, actor-musician Jared Leto and musician Alex Ebert shocked us by proudly rocking the man bun. “The looks fit the wearer, even though we may have just met Alex Ebert last night, his butterfly clip inspired mupdo (male updo) fit who he is and Jared clearly understands elegance with a dirty boy edge,” says Patrick McIvor, artistic and techni culture director for Goldwell and KMS California.

Using KMS California products, McIvor offers the step-by-step to achieve Leto’s look:
Apply Tame Frizz Taming Cream to wet hair, layered with Silk Sheen Styling Cream and finished with Silk Sheen Polishing Serum through the ends. After layering the products in the hair one at a time, comb smooth into a ponytail. Then with a second covered elastic, create a loop by folding the hair back toward the base of the ponytail allowing the ends to be free and secure by wrapping the hair around the base still leaving the ends free.
