PBA and Beauty Professionals Visit Washington for Lobby Day 2013

The Professional Beauty Association (PBA), along with beauty aficionados, visited Washington, D.C., in early May for Lobby Day 2013. Beauty professionals from across the country who chose to volunteer their time to represent their industry traveled to the capital city to meet with Congress and discuss industry issues, as well as to promote the Small Business Tax Equalization & Compliance Act. The bill would grant salon owners a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on the FICA taxes they currently pay on their employees' tip earnings, a luxury the restaurant business has enjoyed for 15 years.

After a day of lobbying Congress members, many of whom were the volunteer beauty professionals' local representatives, Congress and participants were invited to Welcome to Our World (WTOW), hosted by the Professional Beauty Federation, for some beautification. The pop-up salon was located in the Cannon House Office Building, where professionals with OPI, Sexy Hair and JCPenney Salon, among others, devoted their time to polish, pamper and give haircuts to all who visited.
