Rock star hair is predicted to be the “it†look this coming spring, along with peace signs, beads, and headbands.

Ross Bartolomei, owner of Salon Hype in La Grange, Illinois has built his 20-year reputation as a colorist and master of wearable hair. In his salon, he has seen a tremendous up-tick in the number of clients requesting the “rock star†look. “To make this style work the cut’s proportion needs to be absolutely right—whether it’s longer on top, on the sides, somewhat shorter in the back—it all has to work in balance,†says Bartolomei. “You also can’t overlook color. It can be chunky and random as long as there is a certain flow.â€

True rock star Jim Peterik, best known for his band Survivor, has been sporting the look for decades and for the past several years, has only trusted Bartolomei with his ‘do. To make the look work, Peterik says it must be worn with attitude, confidence and fashion. Says Peterik, “If you aren’t ready to wear the clothes, you shouldn’t do the hair.â€

According to Bartolomei, the rock influence has staying power. “The forecast for spring and summer is pin straight hair and the rounder, concave shapes from the ‘70s coming back with the fuller, bigger look of the ‘80s still lingering,†he says. “What was old is new and it’s my job as stylist to make it fresh.â€
