RARE SALON

The economy may not yet have rebounded, but that hasn't stopped Manhattan's Rare Salon from coming up with creative ways to keep clients coming through its doors. Rare has just unveiled its new custom-built stainless steel Redken Lab that allows clients to be more involved in the haircolor process. "Our clients are becoming more knowledgeable about professional haircolor, so our salon took this interest to the next level," says Rare founder Ruth Roche. "We built the Redken Lab to give clients a front row seat as we teach them about and customize their haircolor formulas." The Redken Lab also gives the staff an opportunity to talk to clients about color maintenance using Pureology products. To address clients' demands for innovative services and added value during this challenging economic climate, Roche has introduced three new menu offerings: the Rare Triple S Blowout, featuring the salon's signature round brush technique; Zoom Groom, an express men's sideburn and neckline grooming service that's perfect for clients who choose to wait longer between haircuts; and Spring Bling Highlights, which mimic natural highlights from the sun and require less maintenance than traditional full-head or partial highlights. —L.A.
