Wig and hair extension experts talk about their newest and most popular products that result in satisfied clients and higher sales for your salon.

For 2014, Great Lengths USA (greatlengths.net) is gearing up to introduce GL Apps, a new line of extensions featuring the company’s innovative new tape strips application. Brett Butcher, Great Lengths USA national program director, notes that GL Apps will be offered at an affordable price point, and was designed to cut down on application time and to help introduce clients to potential premium services. “The performance of GL Apps is strong,” Butcher says. “They’re resilient, maintain good stylability and still feature high-quality Great Lengths hair.” Along with prepping for the launch, the company notes that its ombré collection is still widely popular.

New for Ultratress (ultratress.com) is its Ultra Weft hairpiece made of remi human hair that blends seamlessly with natural hair. The company also has its Ultra II plus Hair Extensions. These pre-bonded extensions with a medical adhesive are made of the finest quality remi hair and are ideal for many needs, says the company, whether clients need extra length, more volume or just want to spice up their look.

Stylist Tony Odisho for Tony Odisho Extensions (tonyodisho.com) sees extensions as a service to plump thinning hair, rather than just make women look glamorous. He passes this notion on to the many stylists studying under him through the Tony Odisho Extensions Academy. “I’ve built my business by redefining the way in which my stylists and clients view extensions,” Odisho says. “Every staff member should know how, when and why extensions can be used.”

New for International Hairgoods (internationalhairgoods.com) is its Micro Point Solutions, considered by the company as a healthy alternative to extensions Micro Point Solutions is made of lightweight synthetic hair called Cyberhair that’s ideal for thin-haired clients because the pieces are micro-mini and designed to add volume, not length. Micro Point Solutions can be layered in varying numbers and can even be added to the front of the hairline.

Short2Long (short2long.com) offers products and education as well as new items regularly. “Being able to offer your clients the option of extensions isn’t just about added dollars to a sale, it’s about giving your clients the best options for their needs,” says Natalia Sprenger, owner and founder of Short2Long. The company currently offers extensions of full cuticle quality hair in either a strand-by-strand method or tape-in.

To add pizazz to hair, Hairdo by HairUWear (hairuwear.com) offers a selection of clip-in hair pieces in the form of strands, ponytails and bands. Two of its most popular pieces include the Highlight Wrap and the French Braid Band. The Highlight Wrap, made of the company’s Tru2Life heat-friendly synthetic hair, comes in contrasting colors and lengths to create various looks, from casual to elegant.

Focusing on a natural-looking color gradation for ombré looks, She by So.Cap. USA (socapusa.com) offers the Shatush Effect Series with keratin tip bonds. Available in packs of 25 units, these extensions measure 20 inches in length and are lighter at the ends with darker tones closer to the root. A wide variety of colors and combinations are available, including fashion colors.

While Leading Hair (leadinghair.com) specializes in wigs, the company has noted a huge draw to its Natural Hair Eyebrows by Dimples. Ideal for individuals with alopecia or undergoing chemotherapy, the brows are made of human hair with each strand individually injected into a thin polyurethane base. The brows use water-based transparent glue and last four to six months. Rather than having clients clean and re-adhere the brows on their own, it’s recommended that the service be done professionally in a salon.

Super Hair Factory (superhairfactory.com) introduces SuperRemi Clip-in Side/Nape hairpieces made of 4 ounces of 100 percent human remi hair. Designed to easily be applied with just two clips, one piece can be used to add length and fullness to the nape or to form a ponytail, and two pieces can be added to two sides to achieve a fuller hairstyle. Also new is a Super Hair Factory ponytail consisting of 2.5 ounces of 16-inch-long 100 percent human hair. ✂ —Jolene Turner
