Scruples’ Charlie Price creates a throwback athletic look for his collection of men’s hairstyles.
For his Sportif collection, seen exclusively in American Salon, Charlie Price called on the “chic, sporty jock” from the 1970s and ’80s. “I wanted them to be timeless looks,” says Price, Scruples international creative consultant and platform artist. “I didn’t want them to be ultratrendy.” Clean-cut, classic looks will always be popular with clients, he notes. —Corie Russell
ABOVE IMAGE: Charlie Price used a scissors-over-comb technique to cut hair at the nape and sides. He left the hair longer on top, creating a long fringe. He next cut into the shape for thinning and worked in Scruples Dual Design Gel/Wax on wet hair and dried. He then used Texturizing Paste Sculpt & Create and spritzed Hypershine Repair Spray as he combed down the front.
IMAGE ABOVE: Price tapered hair on the nape of the neck and at the sides, relying on a scissors-over-comb technique, then blended it from the back through the top. From the top of the ear forward, he created a long, shattered fringe. He then worked Creme Parfait Volumizing Styling Foam through wet hair before blow-drying. Next, he used White Tea Velvet Molding Gloss, then combed the front of the hair down and applied Hypershine Repair Spray for sheen.
IMAGE ABOVE: For this style, Price cut the hair using a scissors-over-comb method. He then created round layering on the top of the head and cut for texture. To style, he used Creme Parfait Volumizing Styling Foam and blow-dried hair while shaping it with Texturizing Paste Sculpt & Create. Price then applied High-Definition Shaping Spray, which he says is optimal for fine strands because it doesn’t make them too crunchy or oily.
