Leslie-Ann Linder, Wella brand educator and stylist at Relax Day Spa & Salon in Menominee, MI, has been on a rescue mission. In an effort to save dogs, she submitted her idea to the 2014 Wella “Supports Your Cause” Charity Challenge and won $2,500 for Because of Mandy (BOM). BOM is a foster-based charity devoted to saving dogs from euthanasia in high-kill shelters across the United States, as well as finding homes for orphan dogs and raising awareness about kill shelters. Through word of mouth at Relax Day Spa & Salon, she was able to garner votes to win the second-place prize, which will help animals in overcrowded shelters, specifically those that are ill or injured.
“Animals bring people such joy and don’t ask for anything in return,” Linder says. There are many ways to support BOM, such as transporting and fostering animals, as well as donating food, supplies and money, she adds. —C.R.
