UNITE Hosts Global Session 2016

UNITE recently hosted over 1500 stylists from around the world at UNITE Global Session 2016, which was designed by Zoe Harte, Director of Global Education for UNITE. The four-day event took place October 9th through 12th at San Diego’s Balboa Theater and featured exciting on-stage demonstrations, educational sessions and creative presentations by some of the industry’s top talent and educators. Several add-on sessions were also available, including a hands-on class at UNITE Salon and an Avante Garde class at Sola Salon Studios Creative Space. Andrew Dale, Founder and CEO of UNITE, also taught his legendary Paramount Business course to attendees.

“We started Global Session because we wanted our clients to experience the creativity of our art directors from around the world,” says Dale. “Stylists take home new techniques, upcoming trends, and a boost of energy as they go into the busiest time of their year—the holidays. More than that, they get inspired and reconnected to their passion.

To kick off the Global Session on Sunday, UNITE Creative Director Gary Baker took to the stage with brand ambassadors Renee Africa and Estevan Garner to present the launch of the Evolution collection. There was also a creative cutting session, editorial styling, men’s barbering and a stunning showcase by Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri of 901 Salon, who shared celebrity-inspired styles and did a social media Q&A.

Day two of Global Session began with a live photo shoot directed by renowned stylist Kevin Ryan and photographer Robert Aguilar. The duo collaborated on various editorial looks and showed the audience how to use lighting, camera angles and other special effects to enhance images. Other sessions covered during the second day were creative cutting, editorial and avant-garde styling and a special presentation by Nick Irwin, who shared his latest work and demonstrated key looks.

Dale also announced the official launch of Doggy ‘Poo—a gentle dog shampoo from UNITE, and 90 percent of proceeds from sales will benefit the Humane Society of San Diego and Shelter to Soldier.

The UNITE Global Session would not have been complete without a special Halloween party at Parq—one of the hottest nightclubs in San Diego. UNITE stylists dressed to the nines in their best costumes while dancing the night away together, and prizes were awarded to those with the best costumes.

“Each year, we’re been fortunate to make the program more dynamic and we always strive to upgrade what we offer,” says Dale. “Global Session is not something UNITE does for money; the money we make goes right back into making the next Global Session bigger and better.”
