JPMS Showcases Signature Style in Vegas

More than 1,000 stylists, salon owners and future professionals got the chance to turn up the volume on education as they let their hair down at the 2007 John Paul Mitchell Systems (JPMS) Signature Gathering. Staged at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in February, the two-day event, featuring the theme "Behind the Bottle," gave attendees an up-close-and-personal look at the many terrific elements that unite to shape the 27-year-old company's unique culture.

JPMS Chief Executive Officer John Paul DeJoria kicked off the program with a warm welcome during which he touched upon the many philanthropic efforts the company undertakes worldwide on behalf of Paul Mitchell stylists. The positive momentum continued with a lively opening ceremony featuring Cirque du Soleil dancers from the La Rève show, as well as an inspirational stage presentation showcasing looks that the company's artistic team created to represent each of the JPMS brands. That was followed with a blowout segment where JPMS co-founder and stylist Angus Mitchell introduced his new platform show team before surprising everyone by proposing to his girlfriend, model Mika Crace, on stage in front of a packed crowd of his peers and family.

Impactful education continued in interactive classrooms where Scott Cole and Linda Yodice taught Color-Cutting; Mitchell, Stephanie Kocielski and DJ Muldoon spotlighted Hands-On Cut & Color; and Jimy Angel, Melissa Jaqua, Maureen McCarthy and Pamela Perettie taught Hands-On Styling. For his part, master of wit Robert Cromeans laced his Seriously Business seminar with equal parts business strategies and humor.

Other crowd-pleasers were Dean of Paul Mitchell The School Winn Claybaugh's program about the importance of being nice and a grand finale that featured a roster of all-stars, including JPMS Global Ambassador Floyd Kenyatta, Global Artistic Director Cromeans and newly appointed Artistic Director Kocielski. "Beyond the wonderful shampoos and products we manufacture," says DeJoria, "I know that it's what's behind the bottle—the talented hairstylists and future professionals in our network—that make JPMS truly special and unique."
