To create this edgy, masculine shape, Stacey Egan, an in-demand hairdresser who hails from the Guy Kremer Salon in Winchester, England, kept the fringe sharp while cutting point texture in the crown. Salon Colour Director JC chose to imbue the hair with a deeper hue to emphasize and accentuate the lines of the cut’s shape. For the final touch, “a bit of beard stubble helped create that slightly untidy look that’s very stylish,” JC says.—K.D.

Filling just 270 square feet in a quiet corner of Chelsea Market—Manhattan’s humming retail and office mecca—is Decatur & Sons, the property’s first barbershop. And just like Chelsea Market, a former baking factory built in 1929 that now houses television studios and a retail concourse, Decatur & Sons takes guests back in time. The Market, a 22-building complex, features historic architectural elements including exposed ceilings and solid woodwork, which are also found in the four-chair barbershop that highlights its raw design aesthetic by offering quality services, superb craftsmanship and a relaxed atmosphere. Opened in April by third-generation barber Thorin Decatur, the shop boasts a full menu of services such as cuts, beard trims and straight-razor shaves, all of which are attended to with great detail. Decatur & Sons takes appointments as well as walk-ins, emphasizing that along with high-quality workmanship, convenience is also important. “I want the shop to be a joy to come to because getting a haircut in this city can be a pain,” Decatur says. “Here, guys can have a break from the hectic city and just relax and enjoy themselves.” —J.T.
