Modern Glamour

Anne Hathaway trusts her tresses to celebrity stylist Ted Gibson. To achieve this kind of look, Gibson starts with good prep products, such as his own Build It Blow Drying Agent or Hairsheet Styling, to protect hair and build volume and shine. He then dries the hair with a round brush before taking 2-inch sections and wrapping them around a 1-inch curling iron. "Don't pin the sections because you just want the texture, not a lot of curl," Gibson cautions. He finishes with shine lotion to calm flyaways and a touchable, lightweight hairspray. "The result," he says, "is sexy, modern texture that isn't overdone." —L.M.

Textured Bob

Matrix celebrity stylist Mark Townsend recently cut Reese Witherspoon's hair into a chic bob. To style this look, Townsend applied Matrix Biolage Volumizing Whipped Mousse, then rough-dried the hair using his fingers and a Mason Pearson brush on top to lift the roots. Next, he mixed Biolage Molding Soufflé with Vavoom Freezing Spray in his hands and raked them through the ends. "The hairspray gives a little extra hold to the cream," he says. "To finish, I always spray a natural-bristle eyebrow brush with Vavoom Freezing Spray and brush it through the bangs. It gives a little hold but won't look sticky." —L.A.

Long and Lush

Tracey Cunningham, Redken's creative consultant for color, has a loyal celebrity clientele that includes Kate Beckinsale. "Her hair is very long. Sometimes I blow-dry it straight, sometimes I put a bit more wave or curl in," says Cunningham, who uses Redken Align 12 ultra-straight balm on Beckinsale's hair even if she isn't looking for stick-straight results. Since Cunningham is known for creating drop-dead gorgeous haircolor, she has another trick up her sleeve to keep Beckinsale's hair looking shiny and healthy. "I apply Shades EQ 9N after every service," she says. —M.D.

Touchable Waves

Joico celebrity stylist George Papanikolas is a stylist and colorist at the West Hollywood, CA, hot spot Andy LeCompte Salon, visited by A-listers like Madonna and Kate Hudson. The most-requested look from his clients is Gisele Bündchen's soft waves. To get the look, Papanikolas applies Joico K-PAK Thermal Design Foam to damp hair at the roots. After blow-drying, he pins two curls on the top of the head, then curls vertical sections of hair away from the face with a 1½-inch iron, finishing with the pinned pieces. Next, he rubs a drop of K-PAK Protect & Shine Serum on his palms and runs them through the hair, finishing with Design Collection Flexible Shaping Spray. "The look you want is touchable, bouncy hair," he says. —L.A.

Modified Chignon

Townsend recently gave Diane Lane a modern shag cut with chunky layers. For the New York City premiere of Lane's film, Nights in Rodanthe, Townsend styled her hair into a modified chignon. "Her hair was too short and had too many layers for a traditional chignon," he says. To get the look, Townsend first applied Matrix Vavoom Take Me Higher root riser to the hair and blew it out with a round brush. Then he rubbed Biolage Molding Soufflé on his hands and raked them through the hair. Next, he sectioned off the sides and swept the top, from the crown down, into a sectioned bun, a little off-center. Finally, he wrapped the sectioned-off sides around the bun and finished with Vavoom Freezing Spray. —L.A.

Lots of Volume

Lindsay Lohan, another one of Cunningham's celebrity clients, wears a few extensions to add volume to her hair. When Cunningham uses a curling iron to create soft waves like the look shown here, she applies Redken Spray Starch 15 heat memory styler first. "It's pretty easy to brush through," she says. Cunningham also uses Redken Touch Control 05 volumizing texture whip on Lohan's hair to provide mild control. "I don't want the hair too stiff," she says. The finishing touch? Redken Headplay 12 pliable working spray, which provides a flexible, frizz-free, shiny finish. What's more, it offers 24-hour humidity resistance. —M.D.
